Drug Class and Mechanism

Chaste Tree Berry: Since Greco-Roman times, the berries of the chaste tree have been used to treat female problems, such as menopausal disorders, premenstrual syndrome, menstrual irregularities, uterine pain, swollen ovaries, breast tenderness and more. Chaste tree berry can relieve PMS by balancing the female sex hormones throughout the menstrual cycle; it increases LH (luteinizing hormone) and inhibits FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) release. By doing this, the estrogen to progesterone ratio is shifted so that less estrogen is present (FSH promotes estrogen release). In other words, a lower amount of estrogen may result in fewer or no premenstrual symptoms. Evidence of chaste tree berry effectiveness has been verified through clinical studies; in a German study, for example, 90% of 1,542 women taking chaste tree reported that their PMS symptoms were significantly or completely relieved. Chaste tree use in alleviating breast swelling is attributed to gamma linolenic acid (GLA), an essential fatty acid found in the berries.

Black Cohosh: Black Cohosh was originally used for PMS, menstrual cramps, and menopausal complaints in the late 1800's, and it is still popular today for the above female problems and as an alternative for hormone replacement therapy and high blood pressure. Clinical findings have shown that Black Cohosh root promotes and restores healthy menstrual activity, soothes irritation and congestion of the uterus, cervix and vagina, relieves the pain and distress of pregnancy, contributes to quick, easy and uncomplicated deliveries, and promotes uterine involution and recovery.

Dong Quai: In traditional Chinese medicine, Dong Quai is used to treat menstrual problems and PMS. Chinese researchers found that Dong Quai also stimulates red blood cell production, promoting a decline in fatigue. br>
Evening Primrose Oil: Evening Primrose oil (EPO) comes from the seeds of the Evening Primrose plant. Like Chaste Tree, this oil is rich in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). GLA is a long-chain fatty acid that is thought to suppress inflammation by metabolizing into DGLA and, subsequently, inhibiting prostaglandin. Since excessive uterine contractions caused by the overproduction of prostaglandin are responsible for menstrual cramps, EPO may act to eliminate or suppress these cramps. Studies on Evening primrose effects on PMS and breast pain have been conducted, and they have shown significant results supporting EPOs use for menstrual and premenstrual problems. Evening primrose is an approved PMS treatment in Great Britain & has been used for centuries by American Indians.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose of Soothenol, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Storage

Store Soothenol at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Keep Soothenol out of the reach of children and away from pets.

Warnings/Precautions

You should not use this medication if you are allergic to Saw Palmetto, or have certain conditions. Be sure your doctor knows if you have:

• a bleeding or blood clotting disorder (such as hemophilia);
• stomach ulcer with active bleeding; or
• ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease.

Before taking saw palmetto, talk to your doctor, pharmacist, herbalist, or other healthcare provider. You may not be able to use this product if you have:

• liver disease;
• heart disease;
• a heart rhythm disorder;
• a history of stomach ulcer; or
• asthma or other breathing disorder.

Do not take saw palmetto without telling your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment. Saw palmetto may be harmful to an unborn baby. It is not known whether saw palmetto passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not use this product without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. Do not give any herbal/health supplement to a child without the advice of a doctor.
